Today’s lesson will provide you with an in-depth overview of what British culture looks like. To get the most from this lesson it is important that you fully participate, ask questions and share your opinion during discussions.

Slide 1- Flags of Great Britain: What makes up Britain?

Slide 2 - Foreign Born Population: If you walk down a street in England, you will see people from a mixture of diverse ethnic groups, each with their own distinct culture and sometimes their own language. London is the multicultural centre of Europe and its inhabitants speak 300 different languages. One in nine British residents was born overseas.

Slide 3 - Religion: The religious make-up of the UK is diverse, complex, multicultural and surprising.

Slide 4 - British Royal Family: Queen Elizabeth II is head of 16 countries that presently have her as there ruler. These countries include Australia, New Zealand, The Bahamas, Belize and Canada.

Slide 5 - British Sport: Sport plays an important role in the United Kingdom. People are passionate about football, cricket, and rugby. Football is the most popular sport and every weekend millions of people support their local team.

Slide 6 - British Food: As well as the British influence on its empire, the empire also influenced British culture, particularly British cuisine. A recent survey in the United Kingdom confirmed that the Chicken Tikka Masala is Britain's true national dish.

Slide 7 - Britain's Class System: Unlike some other countries such as the USA, class in Britain is more a matter of values and behaviours such as accent, vocabulary, manners, style of dress and taste than purely money.
